Next Generation Lithium Batteries from Victron Energy Now Available
Discover the new Smart Lithium NG 24V 200Ah battery from Victron Energy.
The key improvements over the previous generation of lithium batteries include:
- Integrated Cell Balancing and Monitoring
This feature ensures optimal management of each cell, enhancing the battery's lifespan and reliability. - Reduced Self-Consumption
The battery's self-consumption has been significantly improved and is now capped at a maximum of 2% of the battery capacity per month. Lower self-consumption contributes to better overall performance, longevity, and reliability of the NG batteries. - Easy Bracket Mounting
Mounting brackets make installation simpler and ensure that the battery is securely protected against slipping and tilting. - Automatic Installation, Monitoring, and Control via VictronConnect App, GX Device, or VRM Portal
All battery parameters are automatically managed by the BMS. The BMS automatically detects the system voltage and the number of batteries, whether connected in parallel, series, or series/parallel. The BMS (now available with the Lynx Smart BMS NG 500A/1000A, with additional models to follow) is mandatory and must be purchased separately. Monitoring and control are carried out via VictronConnect (each BMS model includes Bluetooth), a GX communication center, or the VRM portal. Battery parameters such as cell status, cell voltages, battery current, and temperatures can be viewed in real-time. The firmware of multiple batteries can now be updated at once, rather than updating each battery individually.
These batteries are perfectly compatible with the Lynx Smart BMS NG 500A or 1000A, which are sold separately.

Parallel Redundancy for Lynx Smart BMS
Victron Energy introduces the new parallel redundancy feature for the Lynx Smart BMS and Lynx Smart BMS NG series. This feature allows for multiple Lynx BMS systems to be used in a single installation, each with its own battery bank. This creates a redundant battery system, increasing the maximum installable capacity and the maximum allowable charge and discharge currents.
The parallel redundant operation is designed from the ground up to be as robust and redundant as possible. For instance, a disconnected network communication cable will not automatically lead to a complete system shutdown. The system will remain online as long as possible, taking into account the safety and health of the battery.
The GX device provides a comprehensive overview of all individual battery banks and the aggregated total, including their status.
Operation is simple and safe due to controlled, automatic reconnection. When a BMS can be reconnected, it will safely reactivate the battery bank without significant balancing currents. After a battery bank is activated by the user, the Lynx BMS units ensure it is smoothly reintegrated into the system without interruptions or intensive monitoring by the operator.
Required is a Lynx Smart BMS firmware v1.11 and Venus OS v3.40.

Project in the spotlight: Off-grid charging station for robotic lawn mowers at airports
For an international customer that installs industrial robotic mowers at airports, in this case at Schiphol, we developed and built an off-grid charging station. During the day this system charges the US5000 lithium batteries with solar energy in order to then use this energy at night to recharge the batteries of the robotic lawn mowers. For this charging process we use Orion-Tr DC-DC battery chargers. We built the entire system into a watertight 19" box.
For the monitoring we use a Cerbo-GX with 4G connection to the VRM site of Victron Energy.

Follow our master class on Dynamic ESS at INTERSOLUTION!
In January you can find us at InterSolution with our S³ home battery, an off-grid system and the new Pylontech battery. This year you can also follow our master class on Dynamic ESS in collaboration with Victron Energy. Thanks to this innovation you can take advantage of Day Ahead prices with your home battery.
What are Day Ahead prices, exactly?
Every day the electricity price for the next day is published by ENTSO-E. This price varies per hour.
Just what does Dynamic ESS do?
This function will schedule the charge/discharge cycles of the battery and takes account of the grid prices, the anticipated consumption, the forecast solar output and the battery cost. Thus for example the battery system will charge when the grid prices are low or deliver current back to the grid if you are compensated for this.
InterSolution, the networking and trade fair for solar energy in the Benelux, is being held on Wednesday 17 and Thursday 18 January 2024 in Flanders Expo Ghent. Interested in our storage systems? Then we’d be delighted to meet you at our stand 8453! To get a free ticket, you can register with our code: SE10063748.
As of 1/1/24, BEBAT contribution on all lithium batteries >20kg
Since 1/1/2022 we have been required to charge an environmental contribution of €2.39/kg on lithium-ion batteries when they are used for an ESS system. As of 1/1/2024, this obligation is being extended to cover all lithium batteries >20kg. Therefore this cost will henceforth be charged on the batteries of Victron Energy and MG Energy Systems as well.
The Bebat cost is always stated separately on the invoice so that you can clearly prove that you paid it.
These contributions to Bebat are applied to support the battery recycling process and ensure that used batteries are collected and processed in a responsible manner. In this way we are contributing to a circular economy and the environmental impact is minimised as much as possible.
Lynx Smart BMS now also available in 1000A
The Lynx Smart BMS is a dedicated Battery Management System for Victron Lithium Smart Batteries. There are multiple BMS-es available for our Smart Lithium series of batteries, and the Lynx Smart is the most feature rich and complete option. It is available in two versions: 500A (with M8 busbar connections) and the newest version is 1000A (with M10 busbar connections).
The Lynx Smart BMS is part of the modular Lynx Distribution system.
Caution with this lynx BMS 1000A you must use a new Lynx distributor with M10 connections and a new Lynx Power In.
TIP: activate BATTERY LIFE in ESS systems during the winter period
The BatteryLife feature prevents a harmful 'low battery state-of-charge' from being allowed to continue for an extended period of time. For example in winter, if there is insufficient PV power available to replace the stored battery energy which is consumed every day, without the BatteryLife feature the battery SoC will fall to its low-limit and stay at or near that level - continually failing to become fully-charged.
BatteryLife tries to ensure that the battery will always be recharged to 100% SoC - every day. You can find more information here.

Priority to solar and wind energy when using shore power
If you own a boat or a camper you often have the opportunity to connect to the grid for charging, for instance at a campsite or in a marina. Until now, when connecting to the grid, batteries were primarily charged using the high power of the grid. This means the available wind and solar energy only charges the battery to a limited extent. With the new functionality included in the latest firmware you can now prioritise charging with wind and solar energy, actively reducing your electricity bill!

Green energy at scouts camp
More and more youth organisations are opting for green energy on their camping grounds. They deserve every encouragement and that is why we are glad to sponsor them! This summer we sponsored Scouts 28 Zaoeja and Scouts Vlierbeek.
The solar generator of Scouts Vlierbeek is a closed trailer with 8 solar panels generating an output of 3kWp. The trailer contains 4 batteries with an overall capacity of 10kWh. The solar panels and batteries were connected to an EasySolar II-GX 48/3000. The solar generator was used following extensive testing and approval. In the future other scouts groups will also have access to this battery system.
Click here for the full article on the website of newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.
Scouts 28 Zaoeja built a solar station that can be used to connect a freezer and charge mobile phones. Thanks to this battery system they no longer have to make 3 runs per day to a local farmer to collect food. This scouts group also hopes to inspire other scouts groups to use green energy at camp.

Latest Pylontech battery Pelio deliverable
The Pelio is the latest Pylontech battery developed for energy storage in modern dwellings. Thanks to the new LFP technology it has an extremely small footprint, it is lightweight and boasts high energy density.
Every module has a capacity of 5.12kWh. The modular design allows stacking of up to 4 modules and a total of 20 modules can be connected to create an overall battery capacity of 102 kWh, ideal for larger residential units or commercial applications.
The battery can simply be installed on the floor or mounted on the wall. The latter requires the purchase of an extra mounting kit, which includes the connection cable to the transformer.
Each module has a built-in BMS to protect the cells.
The Pylontech lithium batteries can be perfectly integrated into an ESS system from Victron Energy.
Up and running
After the fire of July 10, the Ysebaert team worked hard to resume our work as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, everything is up and running again.
All staff are back in the office and our building has been completely cleaned.
Visitors can therefore be received again.
Production of ATEX cabinets restarted on 7 August and employees are currently working hard to clear the backlog.
Due to the fire combined with the holiday period, we will have a few more weeks of delay here.
Thank you for the many statements of support and your understanding.

Renewed design of the Victron EV Charger
Victron has launched a new version of its EV charger, the EV Charging Station NS.
The device is technically identical to the EV Charging Station, but with a new, modern design available in 3 colours and without the built-in LCD screen. The standard version is still blue but you can easily replace the front panel with a black or white one.
Initial setup, configuration and monitoring is done from VictronConnect via Bluetooth and/or the integrated web interface via a WiFi Access Point or a WiFi LAN. The EV Charging Station NS has three-phase and single-phase capabilities. It delivers a maximum of 22kW AC in three-phase or 7.3kW in single-phase mode.
Not only does this EV Charging Station NS fully integrate with a Victron Energy GX device and VRM, if you have solar it can also be set up to allow excess energy from the sun to directly charge your vehicle. Manual and scheduled modes offer even more flexibility to respond to the needs of the EV depending on the system.
It has a fully programmable RGB light ring around the charging port that displays different light effects depending on the current status (disconnected, charging, charged, etc.) to quickly determine the device status.

New energy meter EM540 replaces the EM24 and ET340 meters
The many advantages offered by the new EM540 energy meter for use in ESS systems make it no longer interesting to use the ET340 and EM24 meters.
The advantages of the EM540 compared to the older meters include:
- Faster measurement, as a result of which the ESS reacts more quickly and the readout corresponds better to the readout of the digital meter.
- Smaller dimensions, so less room is taken up inside electrical boxes.
- Better access to RS485 connectors, for easy installation.
The EM540 communicates only via RS485 and can therefore be used with our RS485 to USB cables:
- ASS030572018 RS485 to USB interface 1.8m
- ASS030572050 RS485 to USB interface 5m
The EM540 requires the latest firmware release of the GX software (V3).
No successor for the ´EM24 Ethernet´ is available just yet, so the Ethernet version remains available - but it is currently subject to very long delivery periods.

Discover the new S³ prices with the US3000 and US5000
In last month’s newsletter we announced that the US2000 is to be replaced with the US3000 and US5000. Discover the modified S³ packages and prices.
We routinely have similar packs with the US3000 or US5000 on stock as we expect delivery problems to persist in the coming months. For the time being no US5000 batteries are available from Pylontech, they are expected to make a comeback in quarter 3. We expect to have US3000s on stock in the next several months to guarantee smooth delivery.
Soaring energy prices and Synergrid limitations result in increase of semi off-grid systems
With a balanced semi off-grid energy system, we operate off-grid for 8-9 months of the year and only use the grid during the dark winter months. We use the grid as a kind of generator but without all the traditional drawbacks. Rising energy prices are making this a more interesting investment, which is also reflected in the demand. Also, in this system no account must be taken of Synergrid inspections because the battery system is never connected to the grid.
In a semi off-grid system a 40A or 80A transfer switch is used. This transfer switch automatically switches from the off-grid system to the grid when the batteries reach a certain DoD level and insufficient solar energy is available. When the switchover occurs, the off-grid system is first completely disconnected before consumers are connected to the grid - this is the 'break before make' principle. However, the interruption is so short (50 milliseconds) that it does not adversely affect electrical appliances and they just keep working without a hitch.
With the semi off-grid system no account must be taken of Synergrid limitations and/or grid studies. Another common problem occurs when someone wants to install additional solar panels but the maximum solar inverter capacity has already been reached. With the semi off-grid system, additional solar panels can be linked to an MPPT, which is then used to power the battery system. In other words, it’s not surprising that these systems are gaining popularity.
The pictures of the semi off-grid system were made by Ensol-tec, who recently installed this system on a farm. The installation consists of 3 Quattros 48/15000, 1 MPPT 450/200, 1 MPPT 450/100 PV, resulting in a DC production of 44kWp (expandable to 286kWp). There are also 38.4kWh worth of Pylontech batteries, the Cerbo GX, the accompanying installation equipment and, of course, our transfer switch. The battery capacity will double in the near future.
Semi off-grid systems are always tailored to the customer, making it important to know the daily consumption and peak consumption in order to propose a smoothly operating system. Please feel free to contact us for more details on this system.

Charge your car with surplus solar energy using the Victron EV charger
Victron recently launched a charging station for electric cars. The charging station delivers a maximum of 22kW AC in three-phase mode, or 7.3kW in single-phase mode.
One can choose between a manual or an automatic mode. With the manual mode, the charging can be started or stopped manually. With the automatic mode, maximum use is made of the PV system. The charging station detects when surplus solar energy is available and uses only this current to charge up the vehicle. This works only with an ESS system from Victron Energy.
The charging station has a 4.3-inch LCD touchscreen for monitoring and operation. With the light ring around the charging port you can quickly see the device’s status. Via the web interface this can be programmed to present different light effects on the basis of the current status (detached, charging, charged, etc.). The EV charger can also be configured and monitored from the GX Touch.
US2000C replaced by US3000C and US5000B
Pylontech recently announced a number of price increases, with the price for the US2000C rising by over 23%! Fortunately, the increases for the US3000 and the US5000 will be less steep (6%-10%). This effectively means that it is no longer interesting to use the US2000C, after stock exhaustion it will no longer be available.
The US3000C has a capacity of 3.5kWh, while the US5000B has a capacity of 4.8kWh. Just like with the US2000C, 16 modules can be connected in parallel without an LV hub. In case of more modules, this LV hub must be ordered as well.
Currently Pylontech is still having supply problems with the US5000B, so its availability will still be limited during the coming weeks.
The US2000B/US2000C, the US3000 and the US5000 can always be combined. In so doing, take the following table into account.
Master battery(1st) | US3000C/US2000C |
Slave 2nd~8th | US3000C/US2000C/US2000B |
Slave 9th~16th | US3000C/US2000C |
Master battery(1st) | US5000 |
Slave 2nd~8th | US5000/US3000C/US2000C/US2000B |

Venus OS is the software running on our Cerbo GX monitoring system, as well as its predecessors the Color Control GX, Venus GX and more. Also, it is in the GX versions of our MultiPlus-II and EasySolar-II.
The main new features are:
- Support for the wireless Ruuvi temperature sensors, which measure humidity and air pressure as well.
- Controlling a relay on temperature
- Monitoring of AC as well as DC loads
- Improved support for VRM overview details
- Complete support for Inverter RS, and add preliminary support for the new Multi RS.
A link to the full list of changes and instructions on how to update can be found here.
Easy temperature monitoring with wireless RUUVI temperature sensors
The Ruuvi temperature sensors are your perfect partner for the remote monitoring of your yacht or second home.
Ruuvi is a full-fledged measuring solution. It doesn’t matter whether you need to measure 1 or 20 locations. Simply install your sensors and monitor the measured values on your mobile. In addition to temperature they can also measure humidity. They are wireless and powered by a small button cell, making for effortless installation. As standard Ruuvi sensors work within Bluetooth range.
The data from the Ruuvi sensors can also be checked on Victron’s VRM portal.
A few remarks:
- Victron/Ysebaert doesn’t have the Ruuvi sensors on stock. You can purchase them directly from ruuvi.com.
- To read the data from the Ruuvi sensor you need a Bluetooth USB adapter. For CCGX, Venus GX and also for the Cerbo GX. Click here for a list of tested and suitable Bluetooth USB adapters.
- With the latest Venus software you can install multiple Bluetooth USB adapters and all of them will be used to read data from the Ruuvi sensors. This is extremely practical because this makes it possible to extend the range with the aid of a USB extension cord.
New PYLONTECH FORCE-L2 batteries tested and available
The Force L2, the newest battery from Pylontech, has been specially developed for energy storage in residential and SME environments. Due to its modular design, up to 4 modules with a rated power of 3.5kWh can be connected in parallel in order to achieve a total battery capacity of 14 kWh.
The batteries are very easy to install due to the integrated cabling and fuse, the different modules can be stacked easily. In addition, it has a small floor space so it can fit into even the smallest spaces and the Force has a beautiful design.
We have tested the Force-L2 batteries in combination with our S3 systems. Following a necessary update to version 1.6 they are perfectly compatible. For our customers we will carry out this update in advance so that the entire plug & play system works properly.
Alongside our S³ with the US2000 battery, it will thus also be possible to opt for the S³ with Force-L2 batteries. The batteries can also be ordered via our webshop.
Project in the spotlight: Gijsels BV, storing energy while testing generator
Gijsels BV are a prominent Generator Hire company in Belgium who have built their business over twenty years by supplying reliable gensets – usually in the 20kVA – 600kVA range – immediately from stock.
Part of their success is a rigorous testing regime – before supply, and on return – during which the units are run under load for an hour to ensure they are performing satisfactorily.
Until recently all the electricity generated during load-testing was dissipated as heat by a ‘resistance’ bank. Elias Gijsels – the son of the company’s owner – happened to be working on a sustainability project at school and suggested the test-energy was stored and used to run the workshop and offices. He helped design and install a system – which includes a PV array – which allows the company to be power self-sufficient.
In order to comply with the National Grid power regulations in Belgium, we advised and supplied the system components – incorporated a Break before Make transfer switch as seen on the system schematic below. This ensures that the private power system will not become grid-connected.
The three phase system employs 3 x Quattro 15kVA Inverter Chargers together with Pylontech storage and is controlled by a Cerbo GX. Also in the build:
- Lynx distibutors
- US2000 Pylontech batteries 32 modules + 1 communication hub
- PV active on the public grid (AC 6 kW)
- PV active on the energy system ( AC SMA 15 kW)
- Transferswitch 80A

Bebat environmental contribution for house batteries as of 1 January 2022
On 14 December 2021 we received the attached letter from Bebat concerning the introduction of an environmental contribution as of 1 January 2022. In brief, as of 01/01/2022, for deliveries we are obliged to charge an environmental contribution of €2.39/kg of lithium-ion battery, when it is going to be used for an ESS system.
For example, a Pylontech battery US2000C weighs 22.5 kg, and so a contribution of €53.80 will be charged for it.
You can learn more about this in the attached letter.
We keenly regret this late communication on the part of Bebat, as well as the level of the contribution to be charged, but unfortunately we too are confronted with a fait accompli here.
End-of-year period
We will be open for business throughout the holiday season with the exception of 24th December. All other days a skeleton team will handle urgent deliveries or collections.
The Ysebaert team would like to thank you for the pleasant cooperation in 2021 and wishes you and your family a successful 2022.
Pylontech batteries switch from US2000B to US2000C
Up to now we have been delivering the US2000B batteries of Pylontech. However, this version is no longer deliverable and has been replaced by the US2000C. These batteries are virtually identical, but there are 2 differences that must be taken into account:
- The US2000B batteries communicate with Victron devices by means of a VE.CAN type B cable. The US2000C batteries communicate with Victron devices by means of a VE.CAN type A cable.
- As of 9 modules, with the US2000B it is necessary to use an LV-hub. With the US2000C, this only becomes necessary as of 17 modules!
Do you already have a system with US2000B modules and would you like to expand it?
It is no problem to combine US2000C and US2000B modules. But note carefully: always use the US2000C as the master battery with a VE.CAN type A cable.
Do you have more than 8 modules and a combination of US2000B and US2000C?
Then both the master battery and modules 9 to 16 definitely have to be US2000C modules. For modules 2 through 8 you can then use the US2000B batteries.
New Force L2 batteries
In addition, we can also announce that the problems with the Force L2 batteries have been solved. They will be deliverable as of February, but you can already order them now in order to be sure of delivery.
Check your batteries via Bluetooth with a SmartShunt
The SmartShunt enables you to check your batteries wirelessly by means of Bluetooth.
We regularly receive questions about the installation and settings of the Victron SmartShunt. This video from Victron Energy explains everything very clearly!
If you still have any questions after watching the video, you can of course always contact us.
An even better display of your system with the new 7” touchscreen
The Cerbo GX now offers, alongside its 5-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch touchscreen as well. The 7” touchscreen gives a direct overview of your system and makes it possible to adjust the settings instantly.
The GX touch 70 can already be ordered on our webshop and, with this handy adapter, you can easily mount the screen to a wall.
VictronConnect 5.48 has been released
The changes are mostly new firmware versions, as well as few stability improvements. The included firmware updates for MPPT Solar Chargers, Inverter RS, BMVs, SmartShunt and more product ranges are all optional: the user will only need to update in case he wants to change his settings. In fact, this is something Victron Energy is working on in general: reducing the amount of mandatory firmware updates when using VictronConnect.
For more details, also about the improvements in the various firmware versions, see the VictronConnect change log.
Prevent solar panels from shutting down by proper installation of a house battery
Recently there have been multiple news stories about the grid being overloaded in good weather due to the many solar panels that are simultaneously feeding energy back into the system. The PV inverters then automatically shut down and, as a result, your solar energy is completely lost.
However, by installing a home battery you can avoid these losses and the solar energy can still be used to supply consumers and charge the battery. Note that this will only work when the MultiPlus II is installed in series on the grid – in which case the Factor 1.0 rule has to be taken into account; you can read more about this rule here.
If the MultiPlus II is placed in series and the tension on the grid rises, it will automatically be disconnected from the grid. However, the MultiPlus II continues to work, so that you create a micro-grid and the PV inverter will keep functioning as well.
If a battery system is placed in parallel on the grid and the PV inverter is connected to the outlet of the MultiPlus II, this too will continue to work.
This is certainly an important argument when deciding whether to install the battery system in series or in parallel on the grid.
No price increases and sufficient inventory available at Victron Energy
Important – and rather exceptional, these days – is the fact that there will be absolutely no price increases at Victron Energy for quarter 4. Despite the many problems on the market, Victron Energy is not passing these costs on to its customers. In any case, the supply problems remain limited and there is still sufficient inventory on hand for most products.
You can download the new price list of Victron Energy for quarter 4 via the following link.
For the new prices we refer to the price list or our Eshop.
Beautiful design and fast installation with the new Force-L2 batteries from Pylontech
The BMS (Battery Management System) protect cells against extreme temperatures, voltages, currents, SoC and SoH. The battery is designed for a lifespan of 6000 cycles at a DoD of 90% at 25°C.
Alongside our S³ with the US2000 battery, it will thus also be possible to opt for the S³ with Force-L2 batteries. The batteries can also be ordered via our webshop and will be in stock as of December.

Larger battery systems possible through Synergrid approval of Quattro, webinar on August 5th
Inverters used in battery storage systems have to be approved by Synergrid. The following models of the Quattro inverter/charger from Victron Energy are now also approved under the provision C10/11 ed2.1 (2019) and included on the list C10/26.
We therefore are no longer limited to the 5kVA inverter capacity of the Multiplus-II and larger battery systems are also possible with a 3-phase connection.
Because the Quattro does not have an internal double disconnect relay, it still has to be externally connected. For this Victron has an Anti-Islanding Box where this double relay, the Ziehl UFR1001E, is built in so as to control this relay and a main fuse. This is suitable for both mono-phase and three-phase systems. It has a power up to 63A per phase and all parts are usefully installed in an IP65 housing. It is also possible to purchase the Ziehl separately.
On August 5th at 08.30 a.m. Luc Baeyens will be giving a webinar (in Dutch) on the use of the Quattro in ESS systems. Registration via this link is required.
Easily monitor tank levels with the GX Tank 140
The GX Tank 140 takes readings from up to four tank level sensors. It is an accessory for our range of GX system monitoring products, of which the Cerbo GX is the most commonly used model.
Tank levels can be read-out locally in the system, see screenshot, as well remotely through our VRM Portal.
The GX Tank is compatible with current senders (4 to 20 mA) as well as voltage senders (0 to 10 V). The connection to the GX Device is via USB, which is also how the GX Tank is powered: no additional power wires required.
Tank sender wiring is kept as simple as possible: two of the four inputs provide a 24 V power supply, to power the sender. The other two channels do require an external power supply, and there is a power in terminal together with fused outputs to facilitate that.
Upper and lower limits are configurable, to allow using senders that provide only part of the scale, for example 0 to 5 V.
To provide a stable reading, the readings are averaged damping. The damping can be configured between 1 and 60 seconds.
Faulty sensors and wiring issues are detected: an alarm will be raised when values are out of range.
For marine applications, the GX Device can transmit these tank levels on the NMEA 2000 network to be picked up by other displays such as an MFD.
More information in this datasheet.
ESS tip at start-up system with Pylontech batteries

- EasySolar-II 24/3000/70-32 MPPT 250/70 GX (available as of July)
- EasySolar-II 48/5000/70-50 MPPT 250/100 GX (available as of July)
The EasySolar-II GX combines an MPPT solar charger, an inverter/charger and control centre in a single housing. The product is easy to install, with a minimum of wiring. This device is therefore ideal for new solar installations where one wants to charge DC.
New MPPT RS included in S³ with DC production
You could already read in our December newsletter about the many benefits offered by the new MPPT RS solar charger. With its 2 independent trackers, solar panels with a different orientation (e.g. East-West) can be connected to 1 MPPT. This MPPT is ideal for use in mains-linked battery systems with many PV panels linked in series.
We have therefore also included it in our S³ with DC production in combination with the Multiplus II 48/5000 GX. Although we initially opted for the MPPT 250/100, the MPPT RS has many more possibilities and is thus ideal to offer for a new PV installation in combination with a house battery.

Capacity tariff in Flanders as of 2022
As of 1 January 2022 in Flanders the network costs will be calculated primarily on the basis of capacity. As a result, those who cause current peaks will have to pay more. The VREG hopes in this way to limit peaks in consumption so that no heavy investments in the supply network will have to be made.
This peak is calculated on the basis of the highest average quarter-hour value within a month. So a brief peak of several seconds in order to start an electrical device will have no impact. It is thus important not to use large energy consumers at the same time, but rather to spread their use out over time.
With a home battery you´re already well prepared for this, because the consumption will be flattened out. Yet another reason to buy a home battery in the future.

The Multiplus II is a charger/inverter that is used in our S³ SmartSolarStorage. With this battery system you buffer solar energy in a battery and use it when the self-generated energy is no longer enough to power your devices. The stored energy is fed back to your own electricity grid via the Multiplus II. You can find more info here.
Charging an electric car with solar panels? Check!
Eco-project turned to us for the creation of an entire off-grid installation to charge an electric vehicle. The end consumer was looking to charge his car using a maximum of green energy.
Twenty-four 335W solar panels were installed on the carport. We supplied the battery system with 19.8kWh lithium batteries by Pylontech. In addition we delivered two Smart MPPT 250/70 solar chargers, three Phoenix 48/5000 inverters in a three-phase configuration and the Color Control GX system by Victron Energy.

Off-grid music container creates tranquillity
Electrical engineering firm Elektrotechniek Hoogewys contacted us for an energy system in an off-grid music container. This container will be set up in various woodland areas. The container is made of glass, which enables passers-by to enjoy the view, with a classical concert by Sohnarr in the background. This should enable them to really chill out.
For this project, we supplied 2 x 360W solar panels with MPPT solar charger 150/35, a Phoenix DC/AC inverter 24/250 and 2 lithium superpacks of 250Ah each. The batteries can also be charged with a separate 24/16 battery charger when there is not enough sun. This can be monitored with a battery monitor. Elektrotechniek Hoogewys took care of the professional installation.
The Sjel will start operating in the Grote Netewoud in Geel, and will move to various natural beauty spots over the next few months.

Monitor your batteries easily with the new SmartShunt!
Victron Energy has launched a smart version of the Shunt. It is available in three models: 500, 1000 and 2000 Amp.
The SmartShunt is a powerful battery monitor with Bluetooth. It can be installed out of sight, while the live data of the device can be sent to your mobile phone or laptop via the VictronConnect App. This way you can easily check the battery status, voltage, current load and time-to-go. You also have comprehensive historic information that enables you to analyse your system.
Connection to a 'GX' device
The SmartShunt can also be connected to any device from the GX family, including the Color Control GX and the new Cerbo GX, using an optional VE.Direct cable. This supplies the GX device with battery data for system control - and so it is not necessary to install a BMV display.
The SmartShunt can monitor your main battery, but you can also opt to:
-
monitor the voltage of a second battery - for example the starter battery;
-
or connect a temperature sensor (optional) for charging with temperature compensation;
-
or check the mid-point voltage of your battery bank (cable included) to keep track of battery health.
What's different from a BMV712?
The SmartShunt doesn't have a visual or audible alarm like the BMV. And it doesn't have a programmable relay. All other comparisons with the BMV hold true: the SmartShunt operates in the 6.5 VDC to 70 VDC range; draws less than a milliamp and monitors battery capacity up to 9999 Ah.
The SmartShunt is a good alternative for a BMV, especially for systems where battery monitoring is required but less wiring is desirable.
Total control over your system, wherever you are, with the new Cerbo GX from Victron Energy
Immediately check the charge status of a battery, the power consumption of the PV, the generator and the grid, or check the tank levels and temperature measurements. It's simple to set the input current limit for the shore-side power supply, start/stop the generator or change another setting to optimise the system. Follow up warnings, carry out checks and resolve challenges remotely. The Cerbo GX makes every power challenge a trouble-free experience!
Alongside the Color Control GX and Venus GX, the Cerbo is the newcomer to the GX family. The Cerbo combines the best in connectivity and network capabilities of the Venus GX with the display and fast, simple monitoring options of the Color Control.
The added Bluetooth function makes it simple to connect using the Victron Connect app. But you can also obtain direct access via the optional GX Touch 50. This is the display that gives you an immediate overview of your system and enables you to change settings. It is a thin, waterproof display that is easy to fit. This display is connected by a single cable to the Cerbo. The Cerbo itself can be mounted easily on a DIN rail.

Semi off-grid system: no Synergrid approval needed
Grid-connected inverters always have to be type-approved by Synergrid. Only a limited number of Victron Energy inverters meet all the requirements, which means that we come up against a number of limitations in grid-connected installations. The many constraints imposed by Synergrid also restrict creative solutions.
Our semi off-grid system is a solution for this. With this system, we work off-grid as much as possible; completely off-grid is unrealistic in Belgium. So a generator often has to be provided, but these are expensive, noisy and polluting. On the other hand, the grid is still the cheapest power supply.
With a balanced semi off-grid energy system, we operate off-grid for 8-9 months per year, and only use the grid during the dark winter months. When the switch-over occurs, the off-grid system is first completely disconnected before consumers are connected to the grid; this is the 'break before make' principle. The interruption is so short that it does not adversely affect electrical appliances, and everything can just keep on working without a hitch. With our automatic transfer switch, we are no longer covered by the Synergrid rules, and are free to choose the devices.
You can contact us at any time for more information about this system.

Launch of Iris Energy storage system at InterSolution
There was a lot of interest at InterSolution in our new Iris Energy storage system. Besides our S³ system suitable for homes and small businesses, we also have this system for industrial and commercial applications from 50 kW to several MWs. Each system consists of at least one inverter/charger and a battery module. In addition, the modular design enables extra functions to be added that can be applied at the same time:
- UPS: uninterrupted power supply for critical users to protect them from power failures or grid surges;
- to cut your energy costs. The Iris Energy storage system allows you to store energy that you have generated yourself (solar, wind) for later use. It can also be used for peak shaving, if the grid is restricted, the system cuts in to smooth peak energy demand;
- as a charging station for electric vehicles, using AC or DC;
- to expand the available capacity;
- as an off-grid energy system;
- as an energy market participant (grid support, grid transition, ...)
Solar energy can be stored directly in the battery via a DC/DC converter. In comparison with standard PV inverters, there are no losses due to the conversion from DC to AC and back to DC again.
A DC/DC converter can also be used to power a DC network.
These converters are available in 50kW, 100kW and 200kW.

New MPPT VE.CAN solar chargers make installation simple
MPPT VE.Can solar charge controllers from Victron Energy can simply be connected to each other. Up to 25 solar charge controllers can be interconnected using RJ45 cables. Previously they needed to be connected individually to the Color Control or Venus GX. Following on from the SmartSolar MPPT 150/70 VE.CAN & SmartSolar MPPT 150/100 VE.CAN, the following models are also now available:
Once multiple Ve.Can solar charge controllers are interconnected, their charging phases will be coordinated. If they are connected to the Color Control GX, each MPPT can be monitored individually or as a single entity; in the previous generation of MPPTs, they could only be monitored as a single entity. These models also have a VE.Direct port and Bluetooth.

Multiplus-II 24V 3000VA inverter/charger
Following on from the MultiPlus-II 48/3000, the 24V input voltage version is now available. However, this 24V version is not suitable for ESS systems, but rather is an alternative for the existing MultiPlus 24/3000.
The MultiPlus-II has all the functionality of the MultiPlus such as PowerAssist, UPS, monitoring, …
PowerAssist
The MultiPlus-II will prevent overload of a limited AC source, such as a generator or shore power connection. First, battery charging will automatically be reduced when otherwise an overload would occur. The second level will boost the output of a generator or shore side supply with power taken from the battery.
Uninterrupted power supply (UPS)
In the event of a grid failure, or when shore or generator power is disconnected, the inverter within the Multi is automatically activated and takes over the supply to the connected devices. This happens so fast (within 20 milliseconds) that computers and other electronic equipment will continue to operate without disruption.
Remote monitoring and control
Monitor and control your Multi and system or systems' locally (LAN) or remotely via the internet from anywhere in the world, using the free VRM app and VRM portal website. Access can be from a phone, tablet, laptop or PC for multiple operating systems. There is no end to the level of control, via the required Color Control GX or Venus GX, from adjusting your Multi to auto starting a back-up generator and more...
For automotive applications, E-marking in accordance with ECE R10-4 has been applied for.

How to charge lithium batteries with an alternator
Charging lithium batteries from an alternator, be that in a boat or vehicle, presents some challenges when compared to the straightforward nature of charging lead based batteries.
The video highlights these lithium challenges and shows you what can happen when things go wrong – namely alternator overheating, smoke and an expensive alternator replacement, not to mention the risk of a battery thermal event.
Challenges when charging lithium with an alternator
The two key issues demonstrated in the video are:
1. Alternator overheating
2. Alternator rectifier diodes failing because of over voltage after disconnect by a BMS
Conclusion
It’s only by using the correct lithium battery charging solution/s in a given situation, that you can be sure of system safety.
Victron have a range of solutions, like the Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC Charger Isolated, as well as the BMS 12/200 plus more on the way.

New DC/DC 3-stage battery charger from Victron Energy
The Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger is a professional DC to DC adaptive 3-stage charger with built-in Bluetooth.
For use in dual battery systems in vehicles or on boats where the (smart) alternator and the start battery are used to charge the service battery.
The unit can be monitored and programmed via Bluetooth and can be remotely controlled via a remote on/off switch and has an engine running detection mechanism. Since, when the engine is running, these dynamos (powered by the on-board electronics of Euro 5 and 6 engines) do not always emit the correct charging current, a DC-DC converter is essential for charging the service battery properly.
The Orion Tr-Smart charger can be used in 12V or 24V systems and is suitable for both lead acid and lithium batteries. Models are available up to 400W and unlimited multiple units can be connected in parallel to increase output power.
Suitable for high temperatures up to 55°C with a full rated output up to 40°C.

Wiring Unlimited - instructive book from Victron Energy
Victron Energy has published a free book full of useful information about electrical wiring of batteries, inverters, battery chargers and inverter/chargers.
The book puts the emphasis on 'correct' wiring of systems to prevent problems at a later stage. Wiring faults often cause an energy system to underperform or even not work at all.
This book is intended for anyone involved in the development, installation, commissioning or troubleshooting of a DC/AC energy system.
You can download the book here.
Dragon Josephine, powered by Ysebaert
Theatre company Cie des 4 Saisons has developed a fully-automated dragon for their latest production, measuring 7 metres tall and 12 metres long. They have been working on their dragon, called 'Josephine', for the last 2 years. The dragon was designed to move, talk and puff out smoke! The entire structure is built around the forklift truck used as its skeleton.
They asked us to advise on their energy system. We supplied 3 Lithium Smart 24V/200Ah batteries, a Skylla-TG 24/100 battery charger and BMS. This enabled them to control a hydraulic pump, allowing the dragon's neck and head to move, as well as giving it the ability to puff smoke.
The new show tells the story of a dragon that fell asleep during the Middle Ages and woke up in our era, when everything has changed a lot. The show deals with themes such as the environmental transition and transgenders. The dragon identifies more as a woman than a man, and asks whether her name can be changed to Josephine.
We think that the result has been a great success!
New type approvals by Synergrid
Inverters used in battery storage systems need to obtain type approval from Synergrid. The following new Victron Energy devices have been added to the C10/26 list:
Introduction MPPT VE. Can

Bollé Bollé installs off-grid energy systems in Tanzania
Bollé Bollé (a non-profit organisation operating in Tanzania) recently completed the installation of 3 off-grid energy systems in Tanzania. For the 2 schools and 1 hospital, Ysebaert supplied the Victron Energy charger/inverters, MPPT chargers, solar batteries and the necessary installation equipment and materials. The local installation was carried out entirely by volunteers from Bollé Bollé with the assistance of local workers. The result is worth looking at (in the photos).
Bollé Bollé has set up a separate page devoted to the Solar for Igunga project on its website: https://www.bollebolle.be/solar/
The aim of these projects is to guarantee the safety of children at school and patients in hospital. In addition, it is intended to familiarise the local population with the benefits of sustainable solar energy so that this can be implemented elsewhere in the district at a later stage.
We wrote this article to focus attention on the work by Bollé Bollé, and congratulate them on doing a great job.
New Smart Lithium battery 12.8V - 200Ah by Victron Energy
Victron Energy has introduced a new ultralight Smart Lithium battery of 2560Wh.
This version is no less than 20 kg lighter than the heavier version (22 kg instead of 42 kg) and it is 2/3 smaller in volume.
Notwithstanding the 10% higher purchase price, this type of LiFePO4 Battery 12.8V/200Ah-a - Smart (BAT512120610) can be a suitable solution where weight and space are important.
Make sure when ordering that you choose the 'a' version.
You can find more information here.
Multiplus II - 5kVa
Following on from the Multiplus II 3kVA, the new Multiplus II - 5kVA has been available for a few weeks now. This inverter/charger is mainly used in ESS systems and needs to be registered with Synergrid for this purpose. After approval, it will then be shown on the C10/26 list, and can be used in grid-connected systems.
At present, the approval procedure according to VDE-AR-N 4105 is ongoing, and the procedure can only be started by Synergrid after all those tests have been completed. We will keep you informed in one of our future newsletters.
Of course, the Multiplus II 5kVA can already be used in off-grid applications.
Phoenix Smart IP43 Charger
This adaptive five-step charger is intended for boat owners, and offers them charge current of 30A or 50A for each of three batteries. The Phoenix 1+1 model can also provide 3A to the starter battery and the rest to the 'house battery'. 24V models are available with 16A/25A charging. Since it works with Bluetooth, you can manage the charger and set alarms directly from your mobile phone. Adaptive, intelligent and dynamic charging functions - see the data sheet below. For charging with compensation for voltage and temperature, you need to order a wireless Smart Battery Sense.
Reminder: you need to order the AC power cable separately.
Bluetooth Smart enabled
Any Bluetooth enabled smart phone, tablet or other device can be used to monitor, to change settings and to update the charger when new software features become available.
Phoenix Smart (1+1): two outputs to charge 2 battery banks
The second output, limited to approximately 3A and with a slightly lower output voltage, is intended to top up a starter battery.
Phoenix Smart (3): three full current outputs to charge 3 battery banks
All outputs can supply the full rated output current.
Automatic voltage compensation
The charger compensates for voltage drop over the DC cabling by slightly increasing output voltage when the DC current increases. Please see the manual for details.
Adaptive 5-stage charge algorithm: bulk – absorption – recondition – float – storage
The Phoenix Smart Charger features our well-known ‘adaptive’ battery management system that can be preset to suit different types of batteries. The ‘adaptive’ feature will automatically optimise the charge process relative to the way the battery is being used.
The right amount of charge: variable absorption time
When only shallow discharges occur (a yacht connected to shore power for example) the absorption time is kept short in order to prevent overcharging of the battery. After a deep discharge the absorption time is automatically increased to make sure that the battery will be fully charged.
Preventing damage due to excessive gassing: the BatterySafe mode
If, in order to quickly charge a battery, a high charge current in combination with a high absorption voltage has been chosen, the charger will prevent damage due to excessive gassing by automatically limiting the rate of voltage increase once the gassing voltage has been reached (see the charge curve between 14,4 V and 15,0 V in fig. 2).
Less maintenance and aging when the battery is not in use: the Storage Mode
The Storage Mode kicks in whenever the battery has not been subjected to discharge during 24 hours. In the Storage Mode float voltage is reduced to 2,2 V/cell (13,2 V for a 12 V battery) to minimise gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week the voltage is raised back to the absorption level to ‘equalize’ the battery. This feature prevents stratification of the electrolyte and sulphation, a major cause of early battery failure.
Also charges Li-ion (LiFePO?) batteries
Charger on-off control can be implemented by connecting a relay or open collector optocoupler output from a Li-ion BMS to the remote on-off port. Alternatively full control of voltage and current can be achieved with Bluetooth.
Fully programmable charge algorithm
The charge algorithm can be programmed with help of Bluetooth or the VE.Direct interface. Three preprogrammed algorithms can be selected with the mode button (see specifications).
Remote on-off
The remote on/off consists of two terminals: Remote H and Remote L. A remote on/off switch or relay contact can be connected between H and L. Alternatively, terminal H can be pulled high, or terminal L can be pulled low. See manual for details.
VE.Direct interface
For a wired data connection to a Color Control panel, PC or other devices. Please see the VictronConnect app under Downloads / Software on our website.
Programmable relay
Can be programmed using the VE.Direct interface or a Bluetooth enabled device to trip on an alarm or other events.
Bluesolar PWM charge controller with USB output and LCD screen
Victron Energy has launched a new series of solar charge controllers with an LCD screen and 2 USB outputs. The models for 12 and 24 V battery voltage have automatic voltage detection and range from 5A to 30A. The 48V models have a charge current of 10, 20 or 30A.
Liquid crystal display
For status monitoring and set-up
Load output
Over-discharge of the battery can be prevented by connecting all loads to the load output. The load output will disconnect the load when the battery has been discharged to a pre-set voltage. Some loads (especially inverters) can best be connected directly to the battery, and the inverter remote control connected to the load output. A special interface cable may be needed, please see the manual. The connect and disconnect voltages are adjustable.
Day/night timing of the load output
This option allows for a pre-set ON-time after dusk.
Programmable battery charge algorithm
Preprogrammed algorithms for AGM, GEL, Flooded or LiFePO4 batteries (with internal BMS only)
Two 5 Volt USB outputs
Maximum current (both outputs combined): 2A
Using the Victron Connect App for firmware updates

NEW - Lithium SuperPack batteries from Victron Energy
The SuperPack batteries are extremely easy to install, needing no additional components. The internal switch will disconnect the battery in case of over discharge, over charge or high temperature.
Abuse proof
A lead-acid battery will fail prematurely due to sulfation:
• If it operates in deficit mode during long periods of time (i.e. if the battery is rarely, or never at all, fully charged).
• If it is left partially charged or worse, fully discharged.
A Lithium-Ion battery does not need to be fully charged. Service life even slightly improves in case of partial charge instead of a full charge. This is a major advantage of Li-ion compared to lead-acid.
The SuperPack batteries will cut-off the charge or discharge current when the maximum ratings are exceeded.
Efficient
In several applications (especially off-grid solar), energy efficiency can be of crucial importance.
The round-trip energy efficiency (discharge from 100% to 0% and back to 100% charged) of the average lead-acid battery is 80%. The round-trip energy efficiency of a Li-ion battery is 92%.
The charge process of lead-acid batteries becomes particularly inefficient when the 80% state of charge has been reached, resulting in efficiencies of 50% or even less in solar systems where several days of reserve energy are required (battery operating in 70% to 100% charged state).
In contrast, a Li-ion battery will still achieve 90% efficiency even under shallow discharge conditions.
Can be connected in parallel
The batteries can be connected in parallel. Series connection is not allowed. Use in upright position only.
More info in this datasheet and on smartenergyshop.be.
miniBMS - a simple and low cost alternative to the VE.Bus BMS
The miniBMS can replace the VE.Bus BMS in several applications. The miniBMS is intended for use with Victron Smart LiFePo4 batteries with M8 circular connectors.
It is however not suitable for use with VE.Bus MultiPlus and Quattro inverter/chargers: it has no VE.Bus interface.
The miniBMS has two outputs, similar to the VE.Bus BMS.

New Victron Energy charger/converter MultiPlus-II 48V
The MultiPlus-II combines the functions of the MultiPlus and the MultiGrid. It has all the features of the MultiPlus, plus an external current transformer option which extends the PowerControl and PowerAssist function to 100A. It also has all the features of the MultiGrid with built-in anti-islanding and an increasingly long list of country approvals.
PowerAssist
The MultiPlus-II will prevent overload of a limited AC source, such as a generator or shore power connection. First, battery charging will automatically be reduced when otherwise an overload would occur. The second level will boost the output of a generator or shore side supply with power taken from the battery.
ESS: Energy Storage Systems
The MultiPlus-II is the key component in a Victron ESS system, providing the flexibility to combine with MPPT Solar Chargers or Grid-tie PV Inverters. For examples and more detailed information see the ESS Design & installation manual.
Uninterrupted AC power (UPS function)
In the event of a grid failure, or when shore or generator power is disconnected, the inverter within the Multi is automatically activated and takes over the supply to the connected loads. This happens so fast (less than 20 milliseconds) that computers and other electronic equipment will continue to operate without disruption.
Remote Monitoring and Control
Monitor and control your Multi and system or systems' locally (LAN) or remotely via the internet from anywhere in the world, using the free VRM app and free VRM portal website. Access can be from a phone, tablet, laptop or PC for multiple operating systems. There is no end to the level of control, via the required Color Control GX or Venus GX, from adjusting your Multi to auto starting a back generator and more...

Lithium battery with built-in BMS and E-label
In addition to our range of lithium batteries, we introduce the AMPS LiFePO4 series on 12V with a capacity of 100Ah or 120Ah. The batteries can be connected in series/parallel to 48V and they are approved for automotive applications (E-label). We recommend using a "Battery-to-Battery" charger to charge the batteries correctly and safely through the alternator (EURO6).
The advantages of lithium batteries are well known over conventional batteries.
They are superior on every level - everyone wants them, however, installing them on vehicles/boats, up to now, was not that simple and required a lot of knowledge because of fears of expensive damage as lithium has a very specific envelope for their charging and discharging curves.
For many years people have wanted a simple / easy solution to installing lithium batteries in the automotive industry. This includes: commercial vehicles, campervans, caravans, military, police and ambulances.
However, due to the specific incompatibility with charging voltages and currents on board the vehicles (exacerbated by the new Euro 6+ vehicle’s engines with smart alternator technology) and the requirements of the battery. The two things simply could not safely be brought together without a very elaborate intermediary system linked into a BMS for the lithium battery. All these fears are now overcome; today we have lithium batteries with built in BMS and automatic shutdown systems that take care of the cell safety and extreme faults that may be presented to a lithium battery. With the simple addition of a Battery to Battery charger the correct voltage and current profile is provided to the battery from the vehicle's alternator with no integration fuss. This means, when your alternator voltage is low, the battery to battery charger increases the voltage and when your alternator's voltage is too high the battery to battery charger decreases it.
Also, when you have too much current, the battery to battery charger reduces the current, thus, presenting the lithium battery with its ideal safe voltage and current requirements. This has never been so important than with the modern Euro 5/6 vehicle applications.

Smart Battery Sense - Voltage and Temperature sense
Smart Battery Sense is a wireless battery voltage and temperature sensor for Victron MPPT Solar Chargers.
With voltage and temperature sense in place, batteries will be better charged; improving charging-efficiency and prolonging battery life.
By measuring voltage at the battery bank terminals, errors arising from voltage-loss due to cable resistance are avoided - guaranteeing the correct charge-voltage.
For lead batteries, battery temperature data is used to adjust the charge-voltages: cold batteries require an increased charge-voltage, whereas hot batteries require a decreased charge-voltage. For lithium batteries temperature data is used to disable charging when they are too cold: charging lithium batteries near or below freezing causes permanent damage to the cells.
The connection between Smart Battery Sense and one or more Solar Charger(s) is wireless: It uses VE.Smart Network - a wireless technology based on Bluetooth Smart.
Information transmitted can be used simultaneously by one, two or more Solar Chargers connected to the same 12V, 24V and 48V battery bank. The Smart Network is set up using the VictronConnect app.
Installation is simple, quick and tidy. Just connect the unit's two eyelets to your battery terminals and attach the Smart Battery Sense unit directly onto the battery-body using its self-adhesive strip.

Battery storage in the Energy Pact - Ysebaert is ready and waiting
Part of the recent Energy Pact of the various authorities in Belgium is energy storage in batteries. Battery storage is regarded as one of the solutions to guarantee our energy supply, even after the closure of the nuclear power plants.
In 2017 Ysebaert delivered some 50 systems to companies and private individuals. The motivations for purchasing an energy storage system are very diverse:
- Ecological: maximum use of self-generated energy (sun, wind, hydropower, CHP)
- Functional: backup system (no-break) with maximum utilisation of the battery capacity
- Economical: absorbing peaks in consumption, which can avoid having to increase the power connection
Notwithstanding the fact that a cost-benefit analysis does not always favour energy storage, we see that the benefits are persuasive for these "early adopters".
An exploratory conversation with us or one of our installers might convince you to install an energy storage system.

Energy Storage System with PylonTech Lithium batteries
This month we made our first installation with PylonTech Lithium batteries (see previous news). At the request of our customer, the system was built into an industrial housing so that on-site installation could be kept to a minimum. With 6 modules of 2.4kWh, the system has a usable battery capacity of 13.2kWh and with 3 MultiGrid inverters of 3000VA, 9000VA power directly available in a 3-phase configuration.
The ESS system is controlled through a Venus GX from Victron Energy, enabling remote control and reading.
If you are interested in battery storage, please contact Luc Baeyens at +32 3 3280673 or luc.baeyens@ysebaert.be.
PylonTech Lithium batteries, new in our range
The Lithium battery from Pylontech has been specially developed for battery storage in residential and SME environments. Due to its modular design, up to 12 modules with a rated power of 2.4kWh can be connected in parallel in order to achieve a total battery capacity of 28.8kWh. The 19" modules can be built into a rack, or up to 4 modules can be stacked using optional brackets.
Each module, with a nominal voltage of 48VDC, has a built-in BMS (Battery Management System) to protect cells against extreme temperatures, voltages, currents, SoC and SoH. The battery is designed for a lifespan of 4500 cycles at a DoD of 80% at 25°C.
Two versions are available:
- US2000B Plus with control and front cable connection
- Phantom-S with cable connection at the rear and elegant glass front panel
The modules are supplied with cables as standard to connect multiple modules (up to 4) in parallel. The connection cable with the inverter must be ordered separately as well as the data cable (CAN).
Pylontech Lithium batteries can be perfectly integrated into an ESS system from Victron Energy. On request, we can compose a "self-assembly package" or offer you a ready-made system.

Battery monitor with Bluetooth built-in
With Bluetooth built-in, the BMV712 Smart is ready for the Internet of Things (IoT) era. With Bluetooth being implemented in most other Victron Energy products, wireless communication between products will simplify system installation and enhance performance.
An additional advantage is the fact that the VE-direct port is not used for a Bluetooth dongle so it allows you to connect the BMV712 with the CCGX, for instance, and still get a readout on your smartphone.
Download the Victron Bluetooth app
Use a smartphone or other Bluetooth enabled device to
- customize settings,
- monitor all important data on single screen,
- view historical data, and to
- update the software when new features become available.
Easy to install
All electrical connections are to the quick connect PCB on the current shunt. The shunt connects to the monitor with a standard RJ12 telephone cable. Included: RJ 12 cable (10 m) and battery cable with fuse (2 m); no other components needed.
Also included are a separate front bezel for a square or round display appearance, a securing ring for rear mounting and screws for front mounting.
Midpoint voltage monitoring
One bad cell or one bad battery can destroy a large, expensive battery bank. When batteries are connected in series, a timely warning can be generated by measuring the midpoint voltage. Please see the BMV manual, section 5.2, for more information.
We recommend our Battery Balancer (BMS012201000) to maximize service life of series-connected lead-acid batteries.
Very low current draw from the battery
Current consumption: 0,7Ah per month (1mA) @12V and 0,6Ah per month (0,8mA) @ 24V
Especially Li-ion batteries have virtually no capacity left when discharged until low voltage shutdown.
After shutdown due to low cell voltage, the capacity reserve of a Li-ion battery is approximately 1Ah per 100Ah battery capacity. The battery will be damaged if the remaining capacity reserve is drawn from the battery. A residual current of 10mA for example may damage a 200Ah battery if the system is left in discharged state during more than 8 days.
Bi-stable alarm relay
Prevents increased current draw in case of an alarm
Other features
- Battery voltage, current, power, ampere-hours consumed and state of charge
- Remaining time at the current rate of discharge
- Programmable visual and audible alarm
- Programmable relay, to turn off non critical loads or to run a generator when needed
- 500 Amp quick connect shunt and connection kit
- Shunt selection capability up to 10.000 Amps
- VE.Direct communication port
- Stores a wide range of historical events, which can be used to evaluate usage patterns and battery health
- Wide input voltage range: 9,5 – 95V
- High current measurement resolution: 10 mA (0,01A)
- Additional input to measure voltage (of a second battery), temperature or midpoint voltage, and corresponding alarm and relay settings.

The mobile version of the portal for smartphones and tablets is also improved and the portal loads faster for all platforms.
If you are not yet familiar with the VRM portal, be sure to check out the portal of our Smart Hybrid Energy System.
Multigrid on Synergrid´s list of approved devices
Victron Energy’s Multigrid is a special version of the MultiPlus charger/converter and specially-developed for mains-linked battery storage systems. Various hardware and firmware adaptations have been implemented in order to satisfy the standard VDE-AR-N 4105.
On the basis of this standard the Multigrid is approved by Synergrid (list C10/26) for use in mains-linked systems without an extra ENS (mains circuit breaker).
This makes installation simpler (fewer components) and thus less expensive.
The Multigrid can be delivered for 12V-24V-48V and supplies a power of 3000VA.
More information in the datasheet.
Victron Energy launches new software ESS
Energy Storage Systems - ESS for short - is the new software for energy systems in combination with our Color Control.
For new installations, the various HUB versions (Hub1, Hub2 and Hub4) are replaced by a single all-embracing software. This substantially simplifies the setup and configuration.
Several new functions have also been integrated, and the functioning is easier to understand.
From now on, various solar energy systems (PV grid inverter, MPPT solar controller) can be combined and, in certain configurations, an AC metre and ENS (mains circuit breaker) even become superfluous.
For more information you can contact Luc Baeyens, or already take a look here.
Blue Smart IP67 Victron battery charger with Bluetooth
The Blue Smart IP67 Battery Charger is the wireless solution to monitor voltage and current, to change settings and to update the charger when new features become available.
With Bluetooth, the functionality of the IP67 charger is enhanced and is similar to that of our IP22 and IP65 chargers.
Starting in December, the following models can be delivered:
- Blue Smart IP67 Charger 12/7 (1) : BPC120713006
- Blue Smart IP67 Charger 12/13 (1) : BPC121313006
- Blue Smart IP67 Charger 24/5 (1) : BPC240513006
The other models will follow in 2017.
In addition to Bluetooth, these battery chargers share the following unique characteristics of the Blue Power IP67 Charger:
Completely encapsulated: waterproof, shockproof and ignition protected
Water, oil or dirt will not damage the Blue Smart IP67 Battery Charger. The casing is made of cast aluminium and the electronics are moulded in resin.
The highest efficiency ever!
Setting a new industry standard: with 92% efficiency or better, these chargers waste three to four times less heat.
And once the battery is fully charged, power consumption reduces to less than a Watt, some five to ten times better than the industry standard.
Adaptive 5-stage charge algorithm: bulk – absorption – recondition – float – storage
The Blue Smart Charger features a microprocessor controlled ‘adaptive’ battery management. The ‘adaptive’ feature will automatically optimise the charging process relative to the way the battery is being used.
Storage Mode: Less maintenance and aging when the battery is not in use
The storage mode kicks in whenever the battery has not been subjected to discharge during 24 hours. In the storage mode float voltage is reduced to 2,2 V/cell (13,2 V for a 12 V battery) to minimise gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week the voltage is raised back to the absorption level to ‘equalize’ the battery. This feature prevents stratification of the electrolyte and sulphation, a major cause of early battery failure.
Also charges Li-ion (LiFePO?) batteries
LiFePO? batteries are charged with a simple bulk – absorption – float algorithm.

Solutions for increased self-consumption and self-sufficiency at SMEs
In October, a new research project was initiated by the University of Ghent Kortrijk Campus (Lemcko) in collaboration with the VLAIO (Vlaams Agentschap voor Innovatie en Ondernemen - Flemish Agency for Innovation and Enterprise). Ysebaert NV has committed itself to working on solutions for increased self-consumption and self-sufficiency at SMEs. This new project follows in the footsteps of an earlier project on “Decongestion of the distribution grid through decentralised storage”. We actively participated in that project as well, and in doing so gathered a great deal of necessary expertise.
With our participation we now also wish to both make use of and further expand our knowledge in the field of energy storage for the configuration and implementation of our Smart Hybrid Energy System.
The project will extend over a period of 2 years and will be concluded with a workshop, about which more information will be provided in later news reports.
Energy Center Wase Zon installs its first S³ Smart Solar Storage
Energy Center Wase Zon has resolutely chosen in favour of battery storage. This month they installed their first S³ Smart Solar Storage. The installation forms part of a renovation project with which the owner is opting for a future-oriented green energy system. Along with 5kWp solar energy, the energy system has an S³ with 3kVA capacity and an energy storage of 6.4kWh.
Wase Zon also has a 2nd project in implementation with a capacity of 10KVA and a battery storage of 13kWh.
Business Manager Christophe Janssens is convinced that battery storage can also give an “energy boost” to his company. Its expertise in the field of renewable energy, supplemented by the technical support of Ysebaert with regard to battery storage, guarantees a high-performance energy system for the end customer.
You can find more information about the S³ system here.
EasySolar, the all-in-one solar power solution
The EasySolar combines an MPPT solar charge controller, an inverter/charger and AC distribution in a single housing. The product is easy to install, with a minimum of wiring.
The built-in Color Control panel ensures that the battery is preferably charged with solar energy (via the built-in MPPT charge controller). Connected to the internet, the entire system can be monitored and operated via the Color Control.
The AC distribution consists of an RCD (30mA / 63A) and 4 AC outlets protected with two 10A and two 16A automatic fuses. An extra 16A outlet is controlled by the AC input and is only available if AC is available.
The unique PowerAssist technology protects the device or the generator supply from overloading by adding extra inverter power when needed.
Several software programs (assistants) are available to configure the system for both systems that are interactive with the electricity grid and stand-alone applications.
In this series 3 models can be delivered:
EasySolar 24/3000/70-50 MPPT150/70

Live data Smart Solar Storage at Ysebaert
Use the link below to follow our 3-phase system S³ in real time. In May 2016, at Ysebaert, we started operating the Smart Solar Storage hybrid energy system (more details in the newsletter dated 27/05/2016). After the necessary fine-tuning, we got pretty accurate measurement data as of July and the results have been encouraging. Our "Self Consumption", the extent to which we are independent of the grid, for both months was 75%, with 62% energy from the sun and 13% energy from the battery. In other words, only 25% of our consumption comes from the grid.
The share of the battery represents a real energy saving, since the battery is charged using excess solar energy that would otherwise have been injected back into the grid. For this, we only receive a minimal fee, since in solar power systems exceeding 10kWp the energy meter doesn’t spin backwards, instead the injection is measured separately.
You can find more info on the S³ system in single phase version here.
New inverters 250VA, 375VA and 500VA with VE.Direct communication port
Victron Energy renews its range of small inverters with three new models, namely the 250VA, 375VA and 500VA. All models are available for 12V, 24V and 48V input voltage. Special features include:
VE.Direct communication port
The VE.Direct port can be connected to:
• A computer (VE.Direct-to-USB interface cable needed)
• Apple and Android smartphones, tablets, MacBooks and other devices (VE.Direct Bluetooth Smart dongle needed)
Fully configurable:
• Low voltage alarm trip and reset levels
• Low voltage cut-off and restart levels
• Output voltage 210 - 245V
• Frequency 50Hz or 60Hz
• ECO mode on/off and ECO mode sense level
Monitoring:
• In- and output voltage and current alarms
Proven reliability
The full bridge plus toroid inverter topology have proven their reliability for many years.
The inverters are resistant against short circuits and protected against overheating, whether caused by overload or high ambient temperatures.
High start-up power
Required to start up loads such as power converters for LED lamps, halogen lamps or power tools.
ECO mode
In ECO mode, the inverter switches over to standby if the load falls beneath a pre-set value. Once in this standby mode, the inverter switches on for a short time (adjustable, by default every 2.5 seconds). If the load exceeds a pre-set level, the inverter stays on.
Remote on/off switch
An on/off switch can be remotely connected to a bipolar plug or between the positive terminal of the battery and the left contact of the two-pin plug.

Afterthoughts on Batibouw
At Batibouw 2016, we presented the Smart Solar Storage S³ to the general public. Interest in our concept was particularly high both during the professional days and during the public days. We also got significant attention from the press, which proves that battery storage and "self-consumption" are very contemporary themes.
Many visitors were already informed and aware of the fact that battery storage should be a conscious choice to use more of one’s "own production". In this context, the economic efficiency is of secondary importance. The uninterruptable NO-BREAK feature could also appeal to many potential users.
We have also listened carefully to the comments and a recurrent suggestion that a smaller casing for the inverter/charger and control would be appreciated. We have taken this to heart, and a prototype of a smaller S³ is currently being built.
We’ll keep you up to date and for more info you can always visit http://www.ysebaert.be/nl/16076/home/hybride-energie/
3-phase Smart Solar Storage in use at Ysebaert (hub4)
In April, Victron Energy released the HUB4 software for 3-phase systems. We immediately began converting our Smart Hybrid Energy System to a Hub4 system. During the day we store our surplus solar energy in a Lithium Power Pack of 40kWh, and then we use this stored energy at night. When the battery is fully charged, this Lithium Power Pack can also be tapped during daytime in order to meet the consumption by supplementing the solar energy being generated in real time.
Thus, in combination with our 47kWp solar panels, we are more than 90% self-sufficient on sunny days.
Even in the event of a power failure we can continue our activities for a number of hours (UPS functionality).
Our Smart Solar Storage S³ system in a nutshell:
- Input: 3x400 VAC + N – 3 x 100A
- Output: 3x400 VAC + N – 3 x 143A
- Battery storage: 40kW Lithium Power Pack
- UPS capacity: 30KVA
- Maximum capacity: 100KVA
- PV capacity 47kWp
You can find more information about the S³ system in single-phase version here.

Use of smart alternators (Euro 5 and 6) in secondary batteries
Regenerative braking systems cause problems when secondary batteries are charging, particularly in commercial vehicles. The starter battery must have discharged by about 20% already to be able to store the energy during braking. For a while, the alternator will only provide 12.4V, which will prevent both the starter battery and secondary battery from charging.
The solution to this problem is a battery-to-battery charger. A detailed description of this problem and the offered solution is provided in the document “Regenerative braking – introduction to the problem and the solution”.
The battery-to-battery charger is available in 12V or 24V or a 12/24V combination and in charging currents of 25A to 120A.
The technical specifications of these products are available on our website.

Ysebaert installs Smart Hybrid Energy System
This week we commissioned our Smart Hybrid Energy System. This system supplies our company with electricity during power outages, buffers our solar energy which we otherwise feed back into the grid and levels off our current peaks.
Electrical properties
The unique Smart Hybrid Energy System has the following characteristics:
- Input : 3x400 VAC + N – 3 x 100A
- Output : 3x400 VAC + N – 3 x 143A
- Battery storage : 40kW Lithium Power Pack
- UPS power : 30KVA
- Maximum power : 100KVA
System components
Three Quattro converter/chargers 48/10000/140-100-100 and a Lithium Power Pack of 40kW form the heart of this unique system. The complete installation also has a Lynx DC distribution system and a bypass unit with coupling to our existing electrical installation and solar energy system.
The entire installation can be read out on the built-in Color Control Display and via the VRM website (Victron Energy Remote Management). Status messages are sent by e-mail via the VRM website while a mobile phone module ensures the necessary SMS messages in case of power failure.
Three in one
The system has a threefold set-up:
- During a power outage we have a converter capacity of 30KVA available and a battery storage of 40kW. This allows us to shut down our CNC machines in a controlled manner and keep on working for a number of hours.
- The solar energy that we don´t consume ourselves but feed back into the grid we can now buffer in the Lithium Power Pack and use at night, during a power outage or to better handle peaks in demand.
- The maximum current peak is settled by the distribution grid manager during one year in the distribution and transport rates. Avoiding such current peaks can generate significant long-term savings. The Smart Hybrid Energy System can offset these current peaks by adding supply via the battery and the converters as of a certain power that is set in advance.
Scalable – for your installation too
The Smart Hybrid Energy System is adaptable to every situation, whether single-phase, triple-phase or split-phase. The power, autonomy or type of battery can also be adapted to your wishes.
For more information or a demonstration, contact Luc Baeyens.
LITHIUM versus lead batteries
Why choose a lithium battery?
Here are the advantages in a nutshell:
- Long service life (up to 5000 cycles at 70% discharge)
- High charging currents (up to 3 times the nominal current)
- High discharge currents (up to 3 times the nominal current and starter currents up to 20 times nominal)
- Lower weight and volume compared to conventional batteries (up to 50%)
- Large operating temperature range
- Low internal resistance
- Safe in use
In contrast to standard batteries, in order to optimise the service life of a lithium battery it is better not to charge the battery completely.

Power shortage in Belgium
Will the power be disabled in your municipality?
Be prepared and purchase a backup system. Ysebaert delivers silent systems that you or your electrician can install in just a few hours. The system essentially consists of an integrated inverter/charger and a battery.
In the below document we present two systems (only in French).
Intelligent battery combiner Cyrix-ct120 & Cyrix-ct230
The Cyrix-ct series follows the successful Cyrix-i series. The Cyrix-ct battery combiner is now temperature protected and has longer bolts to connect more than one power cable. The Cyrix-ct 230 also has LED status indication.
All the benefits of the Cyrix-ct battery combiners are summarised here:
- Intelligent, i.e. the Cyrix-ct looks at the general trend of voltage increase or decrease and can also connect or disconnect with a time delay
- Protection against overheating after prolonged overload, for example
- Automatic system voltage detection (12 or 24V)
- No power loss and therefore an excellent alternative to diode isolators
- Long bolts for connecting more than one power cable
- Button for parallel connection in case of an emergency
For more information about these 2 new models, visit our online catalogue.
Self Consumption Storage Hub 1 available
Solar energy storage has become a hot topic. Victron Energy has taken a new step in this regard with the creation of the Storage Hub 1 for Self Consumption systems.
As soon as the batteries are filling up, charge controllers (DC) restrict their capacity to prevent overcharging. This means that some of the generated power is lost. In off-grid systems, power-consuming devices such as a pump or a boiler are used in such cases. In on-grid situations, where power can be fed back into the grid, it is more efficient to continue to generate power with Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) in order to backfeed it into the grid through the Multi.
That is exactly what the Hub-1 system does: as soon as the batteries fill up, the MPPT Solar Charger continues to operate at the Maximum Power Point to push as much power as possible on the DC bus.
The Multi is in constant communication with the Solar Charger and will backfeed excess power into the grid.
The following document provides more information about the various hub systems:
Self Consumption or Grid independence with the Victron Energy Storage Hub
Extend the longevity of your battery bank
The longevity of an expensive battery bank can be reduced considerably by different states of charge of the separate batteries. The Victron Energy Battery Balancer balances the states of charge of batteries in series.
If the state of charge of a 24V battery system exceeds 27V, the Battery Balancer is activated in order to compare the voltage of the two batteries in series. The Battery Balancer will draw a current of up to 1A from the battery (or batteries connected in parallel) with the highest voltage. The resulting charge current differential ensures that all batteries adopt the same state of charge.
If necessary, several Battery Balancers can be connected in parallel. A 48V battery bank can be balanced with three Battery Balancers, for example.
For more information, visit our online catalogue.
ANL fuse holders
With increasing DC consumption, larger cable sections are often required and consequently the standard MegaFuse is no longer sufficient.
A better alternative are ANL fuse holders, which are made of Noryl so that they are very strong, non-flammable and water-repellent. Their high dielectric resistance is an additional advantage.
Their special form makes installation very simple for both single-pole and multi-pole versions. Covers must be ordered separately.
The fuse holder can be installed as:
- main fuse for the protection of batteries
- fuse for the anchor winch or bow thruster
- fuse for individual consumers
Characteristics:
- DIN 43560 CE mark
- UL94
- M10

New BMV-700 battery monitor
The new BMV-700 battery monitor is the successor of the popular Victron Energy 600 series.
Some of the main differences from its predecessor are the improved readability of the display and the built-in memory function.
The monitor measures the battery’s Ah input and output very precisely with advanced software algorithms. In addition to the main display options such as voltage, current and used ampere-hours, the BMV-700 series also indicates the charging status, remaining time and power consumption in watts.
The BMV-702 also has an auxiliary input that can be programmed to measure voltage (of a second battery), temperature or midpoint voltage (see datasheet).
The BMV-700 can also be seamlessly integrated with the new Color Control display.

Blue Power battery charger 12/30 and 24/15
With up to 94% efficiency, these chargers generate up to four times less heat when compared to the industry standard. And once the battery is fully charged, power consumption reduces to 0,5 Watt, some five to ten times better than the industry standard.
The Blue Power charger features a microprocessor controlled ‘adaptive’ battery management. The 6-stage adaptive feature will automatically optimize the charging process relative to the way the battery is being used.
The storage mode kicks in whenever the battery has not been subjected to discharge during 24 hours. In the storage mode float voltage is reduced to 2,2 V/cell (13,2 V for a 12 V battery) to minimize gassing and corrosion of the positive plates. Once a week the voltage is raised back to the absorption level to ‘equalize’ the battery. This feature prevents stratification of the electrolyte and sulfation, a major cause of early battery failure.
When in NIGHT or LOW mode, the output current is reduced to max. 25% of the nominal output and the charger will be totally noiseless. The NIGHT mode automatically ends after 8 hours. The LOW mode can be ended manually.
Protected against overheating: Output current will reduce as temperature increases up to 50°C, but the Blue Power charger will not fail.

Wide range of battery chargers at Victron Energy
The service life of a battery is largely determined by the battery charger.
The following recommendations will help you to make the right choice for AGM, GEL or open lead batteries:
- a charging current between 10% and 20% of the battery capacity
- for each group of batteries have a separate outlet on the battery charger (up to 3 outlets)
- in wet rooms, a charger with IP65 or IP67 protection
- in applications where the charger supplies current permanently or for a longer period without consumers, use a battery charger with “adaptive” charging characteristic and “storage mode”
- it is strongly advised NOT to use a battery switch for possible parallel switching of groups
For charging Li-Ion batteries other recommendations apply that will depend strongly on the particular application.
Victron Energy’s range of battery chargers has been substantially expanded in recent months, so be sure to visit the product section on our website or get advice from our staff.
