Monitor your batteries easily with the new SmartShunt!
Victron Energy has launched a smart version of the Shunt. It is available in three models: 500, 1000 and 2000 Amp.
The SmartShunt is a powerful battery monitor with Bluetooth. It can be installed out of sight, while the live data of the device can be sent to your mobile phone or laptop via the VictronConnect App. This way you can easily check the battery status, voltage, current load and time-to-go. You also have comprehensive historic information that enables you to analyse your system.
Connection to a 'GX' device
The SmartShunt can also be connected to any device from the GX family, including the Color Control GX and the new Cerbo GX, using an optional VE.Direct cable. This supplies the GX device with battery data for system control - and so it is not necessary to install a BMV display.
The SmartShunt can monitor your main battery, but you can also opt to:
-
monitor the voltage of a second battery - for example the starter battery;
-
or connect a temperature sensor (optional) for charging with temperature compensation;
-
or check the mid-point voltage of your battery bank (cable included) to keep track of battery health.
What's different from a BMV712?
The SmartShunt doesn't have a visual or audible alarm like the BMV. And it doesn't have a programmable relay. All other comparisons with the BMV hold true: the SmartShunt operates in the 6.5 VDC to 70 VDC range; draws less than a milliamp and monitors battery capacity up to 9999 Ah.
The SmartShunt is a good alternative for a BMV, especially for systems where battery monitoring is required but less wiring is desirable.
